As we roll out our latest update to the RotoProspects Top 700 Prospect fantasy baseball rankings, let’s dive into the key updates surrounding the top-ranked prospects this week.
Zach Cole jumps up to No. 89 after his stellar Astros debut
Cole’s rise has been lunar of late—and his major-league debut this past weekend pushed him even further up the rankings. The 25-year-old (pictured above) was promoted by the Astros on September 12 after a blistering stretch at Triple-A Sugar Land, where he slashed .353/.459/.745 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 15 games. In his first MLB game, Cole made it count. He smacked a two-run home run on the first pitch he saw and finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, setting an Astros franchise record for most RBIs in a debut. He followed that up with more clutch moments: in a game vs. the Rangers, he belted a go-ahead two-run homer and added an RBI single, demonstrating poise beyond a rookie’s first week. Also this week, Cole was named Astros’ Minor League Player of the Year, an accolade that recognizes not just his hot streak but the way he’s translated it immediately in the Majors.
Marlins’ Robby Snelling moves up to No. 35 after another dominant outing
The Marlins’ left-handed starter is proving hard to ignore. On September 18, he struck out seven over five scoreless innings for Triple-A Jacksonville, continuing his stretch of dominance. Over his last several starts, Snelling has posted repeatedly strong numbers — solid command, weak contact, and double-digit strikeouts — making a case that he’s ready to be considered among the upper echelon of minor-league hurlers. His pedigree, age, and consistency now push him into No. 35 overall in this week’s rankings.
Royals’ Carter Jensen moves up to No. 40 after his impressive MLB debut
The Royals catcher prospect continues to write his own story. Jensen made his MLB debut September 2 as rosters expanded and wasted no time showing why he’s more than just a filler call-up. In limited action so far, he’s collected his first Major League hit—an RBI double off Thomas Hatch on September 6. Then, in a game on Sept. 16, he went 3-for-4 with two home runs against Seattle, including some of the hardest contact you’ll see all week. That display of power, paired with his catching work and his patience at the plate, pushes Jensen up into No. 40 overall this week.
Connelly Early cracks the Top 50 with his role solidified with the Red Sox
Boston’s rookie lefty is earning his place in the Top 50. Early’s recent rise is built on a minor-league track record of strikeouts, composure, and maturity. His electric MLB debut only accelerated the climb. Between polished starts in Triple-A, plus a 5-inning, 11-strikeout debut in the bigs, he’s now viewed not just as a prospect with promise but as someone who could stick in a Major League rotation.
