As we roll out our latest update to the RotoProspects Top 700 Prospect fantasy baseball rankings, let’s dive into the key updates surrounding the top-ranked prospects this week. This update incorporates players entering the rankings after being drafted my MLB teams on Sunday.
Yankees slugger Spencer Jones mashes his way inside the Top 40
Since his Triple-A promotion to Scranton, Jones (pictured above) is hammering the ball: seven home runs in 14 games, including a 445‑ft blast and a clutch three‑run homer on July 12. With a 1.202 OPS, the left‑handed masher is putting himself in position to debut in the Bronx as early as late 2025, and his tools suggest the upside of a true middle-of-the-order force.
SS/3B Ethan Holliday drafted by his dad’s former team and debuts inside the Top 30
Drafted 4th overall by the Rockies on July 14, Ethan brings MLB pedigree as the son of Matt Holliday and brother of Jackson Holliday. A tall, left-handed infielder rated for 65-grade power, he hit .516 with 9 homers and 48 steals in high school, earning All-State honors. Scouts see him as a future 30-homer threat, likely moving to third base as he progresses.
LSU SP Kade Anderson debuts inside the Top 50 after being drafted by the Mariners
The Seattle Mariners landed Anderson, a polished LSU southpaw, with the third overall pick and quickly inked him within slot at roughly $8.8 million. A College World Series hero—complete-game shutout, 10 K’s, earning Most Outstanding Player—he dominated with a 12-1 record, 3.18 ERA, and 180 strikeouts over 119 IP. Armed with a four-pitch arsenal (Mid-90’s fastball, plus slider, curve, changeup), he’s a high-floor, polished college arm. Seattle will hold him out for the rest of 2025 to manage workload—smart move given his heavy spring—yet they expect a fast rise through the minors, with MLB rotation consideration not far off.
Shortstop Eli Willits becomes third-youngest player to be taken No. 1 overall
Willits is the third-youngest player in history to be drafted first overall and the youngest since Ken Griffey Jr. (17 years, 193 days) in 1987. Tim Foli, the top pick in 1968, was the youngest (17 years, 180 days). A switch‑hitting shortstop from Oklahoma, he hit .473 with 14 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 34 RBIs, 27 walks, 47 stolen bases last season. He struck out only four times while posting a .602 on-base percentage and .912 slugging percentage, earning 2025 All-State honors. Known for his maturity and polish at the plate and defensively, he headlines a record-setting class of 17 shortstops in Round One.
Pirates land a potential future ace as Seth Hernandez lands in the Top 50
Picked 6th overall on July 13, Hernandez instantly became the crown jewel of Pittsburgh’s haul. Flashing a 100 mph fastball (mid‑90s mph regularly), plus a dynamic curve and changeup, he posted a stunning 0.39 ERA with 105 Ks in 53⅓ innings. MLB.com and experts are already hailing him as a top prep arm of all time. Though he’ll likely start his career in rookie ball, the Pirates view Hernandez as a future ace, and his quick rise into the Top 50 of our rankings shows just how high the industry is on his upside.
Cubs’ Owen Caissie reaches the Top 15 after a hot July and performance at the Futures Game
The Cubs’ No. 1 prospect continues to sizzle in Triple-A Iowa. He’s hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games, posting a July OPS north of 1.579 with 7 homers. On top of that, he included an RBI double and two walks in the Futures Game. At just 23, the Canadian outfielder is combining prodigious pop with plate discipline—making the call-up conversation louder.
