Diamondbacks lose Shelby Miller with a strained forearm
With Miller landing on the IL due to a forearm strain, Arizona handed the ninth inning to Kevin Ginkel on Monday —and he delivered with a clean save.
Ginkel entered with a three-run lead and worked around a walk to close the door, ending the game with a clutch double-play ball after Alek Thomas made a leaping catch at the wall to prevent extra bases.
Grab Ginkel in all leagues where he is available
In fantasy leagues where saves are at a premium, RotoProspects.com recommends adding Kevin Ginkel immediately. With Miller sidelined until at least July 21—and no clear timeline for return—Ginkel looks to be the top option for saves in the Arizona bullpen over the next few weeks.
While Jalen Beeks and Kyle Backhus are also in the mix for high-leverage spots, it was Ginkel who got the first save chance after Miller went down. He’s likely to continue getting those opportunities if he keeps performing.
The current bullpen situation for the Diamondbacks
Here’s how we initially have the Diamondbacks’ bullpen situation after Monday night’s game (* denotes committee):
Team | Current closer | Backup | Next option | Dark horse | Closer of the Future |
Diamondbacks | Kevin Ginkel* | Jalen Beeks* | Shelby Miller (IL) | John Curtiss | Yordin Chalas |
Don’t miss the next big change
Closer roles are among the most fluid in fantasy baseball—and the biggest source of sneaky value. That’s why it’s essential to stay on top of bullpen usage, velocity trends, and manager comments.
Our Fantasy Baseball Closer Chart does just that. We monitor every MLB bullpen so you can act before your league-mates do.
