As we roll out our latest update to the RotoProspects Top 700 Prospect fantasy baseball rankings, let’s dive into the key updates surrounding the top-ranked prospects this week.
Bryce Rainer of Tigers jumps up near the Top 50
The Tigers’ promotion of Rainer (pictured above) to High-A West Michigan originally raised some eyebrows due to early-season strikeout issues, but he has completely erased those doubts. He hit .360 out of the gate in July, punctuated by a ridiculous 5-for-5 performance featuring a home run, two doubles, and five RBIs. Statcast metrics show his exit velocities are elite, with all five hits in that game eclipsing 109 mph (maxing out at 113 mph). He projects as a high-impact, long-term answer at shortstop with plus power and speed.
Yankees’ Henry Lalane shatters Low-A, jumps up inside the Top 150
The towering 6-foot-7 southpaw has been completely unhittable, earning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors before the Yankees rightfully promoted him to High-A Hudson Valley. Over his final two Low-A starts, Lalane spun 14 scoreless innings, giving up just four hits, zero walks, and a mind-boggling 23 strikeouts. Lalane has refined his command, whittling down early-season noise to lower his ERA to 2.74 with 81 strikeouts in 62.1 frames. His fastball-changeup combo is deadly, and his massive ceiling is turning him into a premier trade-deadline target.
Cubs’ Owen Ayers nearing the Top 100 with incredible pop-up season
A 19th-round pick out of the 2024 draft, Ayers has put together one of the most spectacular pop-up seasons in baseball. He blasted his 22nd home run of the season (16 of which have come across 62 games since climbing to Double-A). Slashing .317/.429/.649, Ayers is a legitimate middle-of-the-order force from the catcher position. He is right on the precipice of jumping into the universal Top 100.
Red Sox teenager Franklin Primera up inside the Top 200 with plate discipline
Signed for a mere $10,000 out of Venezuela, Primera has quickly become the bargain of the year. He completely pulverized the Florida Complex League, leading all qualified hitters in batting average (.427), OBP (.549), slugging (.718), and OPS (1.267) before capturing a well-deserved promotion to Low-A Salem. He boasts a microscopic 9.7% strikeout rate paired with a 16.4% walk rate. His combination of plate discipline and raw power makes him an essential add in deeper formats before his price tag gets too high.
